چکیده

We test the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule numerically by calculating the total photon absorption cross sections σ1/2 and σ3/2 on the nucleon via photon excitation of baryon resonances in the constituent quark model. A total of seventeen, low-lying, non-strange baryon resonances are included in this calculation. The transverse and longitudinal interference cross section, σ 1/2, is found to play an important role in the study of the Q 2 variation of the sum rule. The results show that the GDH sum rule is saturated by these resonances at a confidence level of 94%. In particular, the P33(1232) excitation largely saturates the sum rule at Q2 = 0, and dominates at small Q2. The GDH integral has a strong Q2-dependence below Q2 = 1.0 GeV and changes its sign around Q2 = 0.3 GeV. It becomes weakly Q2-dependent for Q2 > 1.0 GeV because of the quick decline of the resonance contributions. We point out that the Q2 variation of the GDH sum rule is very important for understanding the nucleon spin structure in the non-perturbative QCD region.

Gerasimov-drell-hearn and Burkhardt-cottingham Sum Rules for Proton, Neutron and Deuteron

A description of the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rules for proton, neutron and deuteron is suggested. The proton consideration confirms the earlier conjecture, that the structure function gT features a smooth Q−dependence, while the structure function g2 is changing rapidly, due to the elastic contribution to the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule. The neutron case features the close conne...

Bjorken Sum Rule at low Q 2

A description of the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rules for proton and neutron is suggested, using their relation to the Bjorken sum rule. The results support an earlier conjecture, that the structure function gT features a smooth Q−dependence, while the structure function g2 is changing rapidly, due to the elastic contribution to the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule. A possible violation...

QCD radiative and power corrections and Generalized GDH Sum Rules

We extend the earlier suggested QCD-motivated model for the Q-dependence of the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule which assumes the smooth dependence of the structure function gT , while the sharp dependence is due to the g2 contribution and is described by the elastic part of the BurkhardtCottingham sum rule. The model successfully predicts the low crossing point for the proton ...

The Drell - Hearn - Gerasimov Sum - Rule in QCD

Photoproduction spin sum-rules offer a new window on the spin structure of the nucleon that complements the information we can learn from polarised deep inelastic scattering experiments. We review the theory and present status of the Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum-rule in QCD, emphasising the possible relation between the present " discrepancy " in this sum-rule and the nucleon's strangeness magneti...
